Carly Herrero, MAcOM, LAc

AronI am a licensed acupuncturist in Maine and hold certification through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). The Blue Fire Healing Arts clinic is the result of my 20+ years in the healthcare field. I’m very happy to offer a welcoming and healing space for everyone in the MidCoast Maine community.

My journey in healthcare began at the massage therapy program at East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR. As a licensed massage therapist I worked at an integrative health clinic collaborating with medical doctors, naturopathic doctors, and chiropractors.

I was also as a nursing assistant at a care facility for HIV/AIDS patients and volunteered in hospice which sparked an affinity for working with people at the end of life.

In 2016 I obtained my master degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, studying with Tracy Thorne and Takahiro Funamizu in traditional Japanese styles, and training tai chi with Dr. Mark Parzynski.

Later I moved to Olympia, WA and specialized in orthopedic approaches for pain at a chiropractic clinic. I volunteered at the Olympia Free Clinic to help increase access to acupuncture for underserved populations.

I served as secretary and chair of the continuing education committee for the Washington Acupuncture and Eastern Medicine Association from 2018 to 2020.

While in Washington I collaborated with two hospice organizations to help develop their acupuncture services programs, and provided acupuncture treatments to hospice patients in their homes. I continue this work as a hospice acupuncture consultant and training acupuncturists as an NCCAOM provider.

I love teaching and have taught continuing education for years for healthcare professionals on gua sha, cupping, ethics, and business, and have taught or assisted teaching at East West College of the Healing Arts and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine.

I recently (2024) completed a year long study of classical herbal medicine with Dr. Heiner Fruehof as part of my lifelong continuing education and learning. My clinic carries the classical herbal medicine line Classical Pearls, some of the best formulated and highest quality Chinese herbs available.

With my background in therapeutic massage I can provide relief from all kinds of pain, injuries, neuropathies, scars, and other musculo-skelental dysfunction.

For sensitive individuals, children, or complex medical conditions I have the tools to give gentle and effective treatments with minimal needles or even non-needle treatments.

Over time as an acupuncturist I’ve had the opportunity to help people of all ages, backgrounds, and at different stages of their health journey.

Often patients come in because they have tried everything for their health concerns and have no place else to go. I continue to educate myself in medicine to help as many people as possible feel back in balance and reclaim their health.
